Holy Lands: photographs of America and Israel by Sam Fentress and Michael Diaz

On view May 8 - June 7, 2009.

Holy Lands is a photography exhibit which explores evidences of religion found in popular culture.  For the last thirty years, St. Louis photographer Sam Fentress has traveled through America looking for signs of faith.  He finds these signs of faith on beauty salon windows, highway pylons, and burger joint marquees.  Complimenting Fentress’ photos of America, Louisville photographer Michael Diaz exhibits photographs of a recent trip to Israel’s holy sites, showing a holy land that is often just as kitsch as its American counterpart.

Listen to Sam Fentress talk to NPR about his ‘Bible Road’ photo project.
