THE NEW SUDAN is an art installation resulting from two recent trips to Sudan by Nadus Films, a non-profit documentary film company based in Louisville, Kentucky.
The exhibit tells the story of Southern Sudan’s struggle with years of civil war and the fragile peace they’re struggling to sustain. Original pieces will include children’s drawings of their past war memories as well as their dreams for a peaceful future. You’ll also see original photography pieces from Sudanese children who used a camera for the first time. Other works include photography by Coury Deeb and film excerpts from Nadus FIlms.
Dave Eggers’s What Is the What is the novelized biography of Valentino Achak Deng. Valentino experienced first hand the atrocities of the war and loss of his friends and family. As a strong advocate for the rebuilding in Southern Sudan, Valentino has partnered with Nadus Films in helping bring change to this war-torn region. Valentino will be speaking at the gallery opening and sharing his story with us.
Nadus Films was established in 2005, born out of a desire to strengthen and empower those that are in the greatest need. Nadus is currently working on a feature-length documentary entitled The New Sudan. Filming took place this past July 2007 on location in Sudan. Nadus believes that, by using video and photography services, a great deal of awareness and change will occur. There is an overwhelming need that Southern Sudan has requested the outside world to help fulfill. Nadus hopes to answer this call by releasing the documentary film The New Sudan. The success of this project will be measured by the amount of awareness and physical rebuilding that takes place in Southern Sudan.
